Civitavecchia

Civitavecchia Express train

Since early 2019, it’s possible to reach Rome from the port of Civitavecchia with a train called Civitavecchia Express.

This service offers a fast connection and has special schedules for visitors arriving by cruise ship. Ideal for when you only have a few hours to visit Rome.

Stations

One of the advantages of this service is that it stops only at stations of touristic interest:

The Civitavecchia Express departs from the Civitavecchia train station, which is one and a half kilometers from the port’s reception center. This distance can be covered by bus or by foot.

If you decide to use the Civitavecchia Express, it’s best to choose the Civitavecchia Portlink service. This includes transportation by a special bus from the port to the train station. The ride takes about 10 minutes and is an initiative offered specifically to cruise ship passengers.

Prices

A one-way ticket for the Civitavecchia Express costs €10.00 and a return ticket costs €15.00. Children up to 12 years old travel for free but must be accompanied by an adult.

Tickets are available on the Trenitalia website or at ticket counters and ticket machines at the Civitavecchia train station.

If you choose to buy the ticket with the Portlink option (for the bus transfer to Civitavecchia train station), the cost is €12.00 for the single ticket and €19.00 for a roundtrip ticket. In this case, children between 4 and 12 years of age (accompanied by an adult), only have to pay €2.00 for the bus transfer.

Tickets for the Portlink service can be purchased online at the Trenitalia website or directly at the reception center in Largo della Pace. To avoid queues, it’s wise to reserve your tickets online.

Lastly, it’s useful to know that there’re no restrictions on the number of pieces of luggage that can be transported and that pets are also welcome on board.
