Paris taxi & ride-hailing apps

Don’t be caught unprepared, find out which taxi apps you can use to hail your ride or cab in Paris, no matter where you are or at what time.

Paris has a superb public transport network. Most of the time, you will be perfectly fine relying on the Métro, buses, and RER trains. Nevertheless, you still may need a taxi from time to time.

This might be the case at late hours when public transport is less frequent, during public holidays or particularly early in the morning. Many people also choose cabs or VTCs (Véhicule de Tourisme avec Chauffeur, or Private Hire Vehicles in English) to move between the airports and the city. And at those times, it’s best to know what apps to use.

The ones we have gathered here are all the taxi and ride-hailing apps most commonly used in Paris. We suggest checking the options and choosing the one that best fits your needs.

G7 Taxi

G7 Taxi is the biggest cab company in Paris, and its app is the most popular taxi-hailing app in the city. Of course, its greatest draw is the company’s reliability and the extension of its service. Through the app or G7’s phone number, you can book one of the company’s 9,500 cabs up to 30 days in advance.

G7 Taxi lets you choose what kind of vehicle you want, track your taxi, and manage your booking. You can pay via debit or credit card, in cash, or even by cheque - although you will have to contact G7 Taxi in advance if you wish to do so.

On the app, you will have an estimate of the cost and duration of your journey. However, the final price is determined at the end of each journey, according to the taximeter and local regulations.

Free Now

Free Now (previously owned by myTaxi) is one of the major cab-hailing apps in Europe. In Paris, it offers both taxi and VTC (private hire vehicle in English) options. It is considered extremely trustworthy and user-friendly.

Registration is pretty straightforward. You will only need to fill in your basic information, confirm your account through a text message, and insert a payment method. Once you have an account, you will immediately be able to book journeys.

Upon request, you will have a selection of vehicles to choose from and see an estimated cost (in case of a taxi) or the final price (in case of a VTC). In the case of a private hire vehicle, you will be able to save your favourite driver to ride with them again. If you need to, you can also book a cab up to four days in advance.

Payment methods accepted on Free Now France are any bank cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) registered on Apple Pay, Google Pay, or PayPal. Cash payments are not accepted, and you must register a method of payment on your account before use.

Uber

Uber is a well-known and reliable app for private hire vehicles (called VTC in French). Uber lets you find and book rides to move from one part of the city to another, track your vehicle, and get in touch with the driver.

Aside from the consistency in prices and general user-friendliness, one of Uber’s much-appreciated features is that it lets you choose between five different kinds of vehicles. You can go for shared rides for affordability, priority bookings if you’re in a rush, luxury rides, or even pet-friendly ones. You can also reserve a ride up to 30 days in advance.

Payment methods accepted on Uber are credit and debit cards, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay and Google Pay. At the moment, cash payments on Uber France are not accepted.
