Useful Apps and Tools to Move Around in Valencia
Whether you are taking public or private transport, there are many tools to help you plan your journeys in Valencia. Many of these apps will give you live information about availability and routes, and even let you pay for tickets. All you need is a smartphone or alternative device with an internet connection.
Useful apps and tools to move around in Valencia in a nutshell...
Valencia offers several digital tools to simplify transportation during your visit. For efficient route planning across all transit options, apps like Moovit and Google Maps provide real-time information and multiple route comparisons.
For public transportation, the EMT Valencia app covers bus services while the Metrovalencia app handles metro schedules. If you need to purchase tickets, EMTicket allows mobile bus fare purchases without queuing at ticket machines.
Cyclists can utilize the Valenbisi app to access the city’s bike-sharing system, while Bikemap helps find suitable routes for exploration. When taxis are necessary, Free Now and Cabify connect you with licensed drivers and provide fare estimates upfront.
For independent travel, electric scooter rental apps from Yego, Acciona, and Cooltra offer flexible mobility throughout Valencia’s urban area with straightforward pricing models.
Valencia has an excellent transport network, whether your preference is public or private. However, it’s not always easy for visitors to figure out which option works best or which transport method is most efficient to reach a specific destination.
If you’re prone to getting a bit lost in a new city and you find it hard to orient yourself in these situations, some of these tools might help you. Using these apps, you won’t have to waste time figuring out which way to go or which transport to take.
You (hopefully) won’t get on the wrong bus, and you won’t even have to wait in long queues. These apps will leave you more time and tranquillity to enjoy Valencia’s sights and fewer worries about getting to them.

Some tools and apps in this article can compare different means of transport, helping you decide what works best in any given situation. You will see which option is more flexible, which has the shortest run time or fewer transfers, or even which one allows you to walk the least.
If you already know what form of transport you prefer, you can use other apps to help you plan your journey from start to finish. On them, you can check the different routes and lines, find the nearest pick-up point, buy tickets or trips, see how long it will take for the bus, tram, metro, or taxi to arrive, and even see the cost of your cab ride.
If you don’t have internet access during your trip, you can still purchase tickets at official points of sale and plan your itineraries the traditional way.
Public Transport Apps
While we recommend you explore Valencia on foot as much as possible, we are also aware that sooner or later during your trip, you will probably take public transport.
Many times this is the most convenient and quickest option, especially considering the network’s continuous expansion. Whether you just need to plan your trip, compare options, or even pay for your ticket, these apps will help you out.
Of course, we don’t expect (nor encourage) anyone to download several transport apps for one trip. That would be overwhelming and impractical. Instead, our suggestion is to check out the different apps and choose one or two that you think will be most useful to you.
To help you decide which tool to use, we’ve listed them all. You can find detailed information about each option below.

Our recommendation
If we could only choose one app to plan journeys on public transport in Valencia, we would opt for Moovit. It is the most efficient at showing real-time information for the entire public transportation system in the city. This allows you to compare all your options and choose the one that best fits your needs.
Route Planner Apps
These apps will be useful especially at the beginning of your journey when you need to figure out the best way to get somewhere, whether you’re on public transport or in your own vehicle.
You can use these tools to compare your different options, and most of the time you can set them to your preference.
Maybe you’re in a hurry and you want to prioritise the shortest route. Or maybe you just don’t like taking the metro. Or one day you are really tired and you don’t care how you get there, as long as you walk as little as possible.
These are all settings you can adjust on your route planner. Here we have put together the most commonly used ones.
Moovit
The purpose of this app is to provide information about public transport routes in Valencia and other cities around the world.
When it comes to buses and trams, the app can provide real-time information (based on GPS data) on vehicle arrivals at any stop. For the metro, it provides estimated arrival times of the next trains.

Moovit is ideal for planning trips using any type of public transportation. You can use the app directly in your web browser without having to download it. However, it’s recommended that you install it anyway for a significantly better user experience.
Google Maps
This popular tool provides detailed information on route planning and sights. Google Maps is very user-friendly and provides real-time updates on all public transport methods (including buses).
Just like Moovit, Google Maps suggests several routes to reach your destination. Also, it provides information about the arrival time of vehicles through the “Schedule Explorer” option.

Even though Google Maps was not created primarily for route planning as Moovit was, it has the advantage of being installed by default on most devices running on Android. If you don’t have the app yet, you can download it for free (also available for iOS) or use the web version.

Transit
Transit is an app that provides all kinds of public transport data, including mapping, real-time info about arrival and departure times, and live navigation.

Although in other cities Transit is already compatible with available car, bike and scooter-sharing systems, in Valencia the app only provides its services for EMT buses, Metrovalencia and Renfe Cercanias. Out of the three, live info is only available for the EMT network.
Waze
Waze is a satellite navigation app, ideal if you decide to rent a car during your stay. It provides live-updated navigation and route planning based on the current traffic.

Thanks to the app’s crowdsourced info, you’ll know the best route to your destination at any given moment, the exact traffic conditions and even where the police are stationed along your route. All you need to use it is a device with GPS support.
Transport-specific apps
These apps have been developed directly for the various transport entities in Valencia.
Most of them will act as route planners for the one means of transport they target, as well as give you live information about arrival times and delays. While you might be able to check the balance on your pass, you will not be able to top up your tickets or passes with these apps.
EMT Valencia
EMT Valencia is a free transport app mainly dedicated to EMT bus services. It lets you consult the estimated arrival time of the buses at the stops, check the balance of your Móbilis card and the exact location of the bus ticket points of sale.

With it, you can also calculate your route, and the different options will be sorted by time and modes of transport. You cannot buy any tickets or passes through this app.

Metrovalencia App
The Metrovalencia app allows you to check the updated info about metro schedules, routes, updates, and run time. The app lets you plan your routes and transfers, and it lets you see the cost of the journeys.

While you can recharge metro-exclusive services, like TuiN (a monthly metro pass that is not of much use to tourists), you cannot recharge any SUMA passes or get single metro tickets on this app.

EMT Geoportal
This EMT page is great if you need to check any EMT bus route (superimposed on a map of the city), as well as their usual schedules. By clicking on the flagged spots on the map, you can also see which buses stop there, and at what time the next bus is coming, according to schedules.

The Geoportal does have a route planner feature for buses, metro, and bikes (both Valenbisi and private). However, in our experience, the calculator often fails, so we would not recommend it for this purpose.
Here you can browse the EMT Geoportal.
Ticket Purchasing Apps
These are the apps you need to use if you want to top up your ticket or pass on the go. These are ideal if you don’t want to waste time at a selling point or don’t usually have cash on you. This way you will have all your tickets with you without having to queue once.
RecargaSUMA
The RecargaSUMA app is a free transportation app. Unfortunately, you will need to have a Spanish phone number to be able to use it. In our experience, it also doesn’t work on every device, so your ability to use it depends on the compatibility of your phone. The app allows its users to check how many rides they have left on their card, as well as top them up.

This tool, which replaces what used to be the RecargaMobilis app, works with any SUMA pass.

EMTicket
EMTicket is a mobile application that allows you to buy single tickets from your mobile phone to travel on all EMT buses in Valencia.
After you download the app and create an account you can purchase a bus journey. At this point, you will have 60 days to activate the ticket and use it. Once activated, the ticket is valid for one hour and has no transfer limits.

When you get on the bus, you will need to show the bus driver your active ticket, which will have a live timer. The same goes if an inspector gets on the bus to check tickets. You can buy up to 10 single bus tickets at a time, and you can store up to 20 in your e-wallet. This means that if you are travelling with someone, you can get tickets for them too on your phone.
For more information on how to use this app, you can consult the official EMT Valencia website .

Cycling apps
As you might already know, Valencia is the ideal city to discover on a bike, as it enjoys the perfect geographical and meteorological conditions for it.
While the city and its metropolitan area are mostly flat and have an extensive bike-lane network, the outskirts, with their hills and mountains are also a great option for bike enthusiasts and experts.
Whether you use the public bike rental service available in the city, or privately rent a bike at a shop, there’s an app to help you plan your journey.
Valenbisi
The Valenbisi app is the primary tool (but not the only one available) to use the public bike rental service. On it, you can subscribe to any Valenbisi plan, unlock and rent a bike, check station location and availability through a map, as well as checking your account information and status.

Bikemap
This app collects and offers hundreds of user-recommended bike routes. Whether you are a cycling expert and need a route for training, or you are just a visitor looking for a touring route with your Valenbisi, you will find something to your liking on Bikemap.

To use it, you just need to search the geographical location (in this case Valencia, Spain) and adjust the settings to the type of route you are interested in (quick, long, flat, hilly, city bike, etc.).
Taxi apps
For longer journeys in Valencia, you can always use a taxi. They can be a good option for those travelling between Valencia Airport and the city, for those who need door-to-door service, or simply after a long day of sightseeing.
However, especially if the time or area where you find yourself is not particularly busy, it can be hard to hail a taxi on the street. In these cases, apps come in handy. If you want to know more about this, you can check out our article about taxis in Valencia.
Free Now
Free Now (previously owned by myTaxi) is one of the most widely used taxi apps in Europe. It is extremely user-friendly and ensures that you are travelling with a licensed cab. Free Now is a great option if, for example, you are taking a taxi late at night.
Registration is easy, you will only need to insert your basic information and confirm your account through a code sent to your phone. Once you have an account, you will immediately be able to book journeys.
Upon request, you will have a selection of vehicles to choose from and see the estimated cost upfront. Remember that if you book a regular taxi instead of a VTC, the total fare is still calculated at the end of the trip. On the app, you will also be able to save your favourite driver or book your cab up to four days in advance.

You will find that in Valencia, Free Now applies a sustainability charge of €0.30 to the cost of the trips paid through their app. This means that if you decide to pay for your trip in cash, you will not have to pay the extra €0.30. The charge is supposed to compensate for the carbon emissions generated during the trip.
Payment methods accepted on Free Now are credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and of course cash.
You can also pay through Free Now when you get in a normal taxi, as long as the driver is registered on the app. All you need to do in that case is to let them know you’d like to pay with Free Now, they’ll search for you on their app and then put the payment through as normal at the end of the journey.
Another new function of the app in Valencia is that you can now book Cooltra electric scooters directly through Free Now . To do so, first, you have to make sure that you have a valid driver’s license uploaded on your profile. Once you have that done, to book a scooter you need to click on the two-wheeler icon and you will be shown all the vehicles near you on the map.
When you are near the vehicle, click on the scooter icon and select “rent”. At the end of your journey, finalise the rental via the app. Payment can be made by credit card or PayPal. The journey costs €0.28 per minute.
Cabify
Cabify, which also owns Easy Taxi, is a popular app, and booking a VTC with it normally ensures cheaper rates than usual. VTC stands for Vehículo de Transporte con Conductor (transport vehicle with private driver, also known as PHV, private hire vehicle).
This app too is easy to use and register on. To do this, you only need to confirm your phone number through a code that will be sent to you, and then insert your personal information.

Once you book a ride you will be connected to the driver. This will enable you to see their location, call with any questions or requests. You will also be able to set your preferences (music, air conditioning, etc) in your account. Remember that Cabify allows you to book either a VTC (tourism vehicle with a private driver) or a normal taxi through their app.
Payment methods accepted by Cabify in Spain are credit or debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners Club), Paypal, and of course cash.
Scooter apps
Electric Scooters are a good option if you would like to move around the city independently, but without being slowed down by traffic conditions, as you would with a taxi.
Luckily there are quite a few companies that offer this service in Valencia, and using one of their scooters will allow you to get around quickly and comfortably, stopping any time you want.
Before getting a scooter, you need to be sure that you are a confident driver, as these vehicles are more dangerous than bikes when moving in city traffic.
One of the things all scooter sharing services have in common in Valencia is the presence of a designated area. This area, which covers the city’s main urban zone, is determined by the individual companies and by public traffic regulations. Within its limits, you will be free to drive and park with your rental vehicle.
There might be other municipal traffic regulations, and therefore off-limit enclosures within the permitted area, but the apps will warn you about them.

The ones we have gathered here are the most popular scooter apps in Valencia. For more detailed info about these e-mobility solutions, you can check our article about scooter rentals.
Yego
Yego lets you book any one of their 500 scooters in Valencia and move within their designated area. The app will show you the closest vehicle to you, and you will be able to take and park anywhere within the area.

You won’t have to worry about charging the scooter, as the Yego team takes care of that. You have the option to pay-as-you-go, with a set cost per minute of use, or load credit on your account, which implies some discount on the cost per minute of use. Two helmets and insurance are included in the price.
If you would like to have more detailed information about this service, you can check out our article about Yego’s scooter rentals.
Acciona
Acciona is a very similar service, with more than 150 scooters available in Valencia. On a map, you will check the vehicles closest to you, and once you choose one, it will be reserved for you for 15 minutes.

You can use the scooter however long you like and park it anywhere in the designated area. There are both pay-as-you-go and pre-paid credit options. With these, you pay ahead for a certain amount of minutes (with a set price per minute).
If you would like to know more about this service, you can check out our article about Acciona’s scooter rentals.
Cooltra
Cooltra offers two services. One is a very similar offer to that of Yego and Acciona, with scooters available for use all over the city and payment options being either as-you-go or pre-paid credit packs.
In Valencia, as well as in other Spanish cities, you can now book Cooltra scooters through the Free Now app.
For more details, you can read our article about electric scooter rentals, as well as Free Now’s info page .

Additionally, the company also offers a daily or monthly rental, where you can make your reservation online and keep your scooter for a selected amount of time. You can either go pick up the vehicle at the shop or have it delivered to you. Very similarly, you can arrange a pick-up or go return your scooter at the shop.
If you would like to know more about this service, you can check out our article about Cooltra’s scooter rental.
