Short-term Scooter Rentals in Valencia
Electric scooters are your go-to option if you would like to move around the city independently, and hassle-free. There are several companies offering this service in Valencia, and with their scooters you will get around quickly and comfortably, stopping any time you want.
Scooter Rentals in Valencia in a nutshell...
Electric scooters offer a convenient way to navigate Valencia independently while avoiding traffic. Three companies dominate the market, each with their own app-based rental system requiring ID and driver’s license verification.
Yego: Offers 500 vintage-style scooters (50km/h max speed) across the city. Pay-as-you-go rate is €0.28/minute, with pre-paid packages starting at €9.90. Their large fleet ensures good availability throughout the city.
Acciona: Features 150+ powerful scooters capable of reaching 80km/h. Rates range from €0.19-€0.33/minute depending on selected mode and payment plan. Best choice for speed and performance.
Cooltra: Provides both per-minute rentals (€0.21-€0.34/minute) and longer-term options (daily/monthly). The only company with a physical shop in Valencia, offering more flexible rental arrangements.
If you want to move independently around Valencia, but you don’t like cycling or walking that much, and you definitely don’t want to be stuck in traffic, a scooter is what you need.
With a scooter, you can speed up on the city’s green avenues and enjoy the city’s upbeat rhythm. In this article, we’ll walk you through your scooter rental options so you can choose the one that suits you best.
First of all, you will find that in Valencia there are two popular kinds of electric two-wheelers. One of them is the regular scooter (a small electric motorcycle that you can sit down on).
These are mostly rented by bigger scooter-sharing companies that have their own apps, and sometimes even physical shops in Valencia. These are the scooters we are going to tell you about in this article.

The other popular electric vehicle in Valencia is the stand-up e-scooter (patinete in Spanish) which looks like a bigger and sturdier version of a kick-scooter.
These vehicles are mostly rented in local private shops. In fact, many bike rental places will also have e-scooters for rent. There are no big companies renting e-scooters in Valencia at the moment.

There are currently three companies offering scooter rentals in Valencia: Yego, Acciona, and Cooltra. They provide similar services and the main differences are the models of the vehicles offered and the assistance given to customers.
The prices don’t differ much, but the companies provide different pre-paid packages and pay-as-you go-prices.
Here is a comparison table to get an idea of the options at hand.

Our recommendation…
All options are very similar to one another, but if we had to choose one out of the three, we would recommend Acciona for the quality of the vehicles and their availability in Valencia, as well as their phone assistance.
However, if you are looking for longer-term rentals, Cooltra has plenty of extended rental options, for several hours, days, or even months.
How Scooter-sharing Works
Most scooter rental companies work very similarly everywhere, and Valencia is no exception.
The sign-up, pick-up and returning processes are pretty much the same for all companies. In case you need extra help with it, we have thorough video guides to walk you through every single step.
There are of course minor differences across the companies in terms of price, documentation needed, and designated areas. You will find the details in each relevant section.
As the vehicles are completely electric, you don’t need to worry about re-fueling (the companies take care of changing the batteries) or having keys. Everything is managed through your phone. There is no subscription cost, you always pay for the minutes you consume.
Sign-up process
The functioning of the apps and sign-up process follow the same pattern for all companies. You download the app, you input your information and required documentation (driving licence, ID, etc…), you choose a payment plan (either pay-as-you-go or pre-paid), and soon after you can start booking your scooter.

The specific sign-up process for each company is described in the relevant section, and you can also have a look at our step-by-step video guides.
Rental process
On the app’s map, you’ll find the vehicle that is closest to you and you will be able to reserve it for 15 minutes, which will give you time to get there and start your timer.
Once you have arrived, you (and your passenger, if you have one) will have to unlock the scooter through the app. At this point, you’ll be able to open the case, wear the (two) helmet(s) at your disposal, and drive however long you want.
At the end of your ride, you will be able to park anywhere in the permitted area, and you will stop your timer from the app. You will also need to put the helmet(s) back in the case and take a picture of the parked vehicle.
This way the company you are renting from will make sure that you returned the scooter correctly and with no damages.

Just like the sign-up process, the rental process for each company is also detailed in the relevant sections of the article, with a video guide to go along with it.
Designated areas
One of the features common to all electric scooter sharing services here is the presence of a designated area.
This area covers the city’s main urban zone, and it is determined by traffic regulations, as well as the individual companies. Within its limits, you will be free to pick up and park your rental vehicle.
There might be other municipal traffic regulations, and therefore off-limit enclosures within the permitted area, but the apps will warn you about them.

Acciona
Acciona offers a very similar service to the other apps, with more than 150 scooters available in Valencia. Acciona’s 125 cc electric motorbikes can be driven by anyone with a valid ID and driver’s licence.
The licence required to drive these vehicles is either A, A1, or A2 (with the driver being over 18), or a B licence, as long as you’ve had it for at least three years.

Whether you need an international driving permit depends on your country’s agreement with Spain. If, for example, you are from the US, you will need an international permit.
Prices
The service, which is widely used in the city, offers a selection of pay-as-you-go and prepaid pack options. The cost of the pay-as-you-go service depends on the driving mode chosen.
Each of the two modes is more apt for a different speed: mode S reaches 50 km/h (31 mph) and mode C reaches 80 km/h (50 mph). On top of these, there are six credit packs of different costs and minute duration. As usual, the cost per minute decreases as the credit pack gets bigger.
Payment methods accepted are any type of debit or credit card accepted in Europe, as long as it is 16 digits long and with a CVC. Other payment methods are not accepted at the time.
Here is a breakdown of the price options.

Acciona’s extra features

- Once you book a scooter, it will stay reserved for you for 15 minutes. After this time, your reservation will be cancelled.
- If you need more time to reach your selected scooter, you can have an extra 30 minutes by clicking on “extend booking”. This will cost you €1.40 whether you use the whole 30 minutes or just a couple.

- In the picture, you will take at the end of your ride, remember that the licence plate and the surroundings must be visible. This is so that Acciona can verify that you have parked the scooter correctly.
Advantages and disadvantages
One of the advantages you will find with Acciona’s scooter is surely the speed and power of their vehicles over those of other companies.
As mentioned, their scooters can go up to 80 km/h, and with them, you can leave the demarcated area and go on higher speed roads, as long as you return inside it to park.

Another advantage of the app is the presence of proper phone customer service, available any time you need it, and not just a chat through the app. Whether you are a customer or not, you can reach them at +34 900 866 002.
One thing to take note of, though, is that Acciona’s prices per minute are slightly higher than other companies.
Yego
Yego has a fleet of 500 chic, vintage-style scooters in Valencia. Each of them has a different name, so you can find yourself riding a Sofía or a Ramiro, if you like.
Like all other services cited, Yego is pretty easy to use and understand. Their Vespa-looking vehicles can be driven by anyone over the age of 18 with a valid ID and driver’s licence.

Types of licences accepted are AM, A1, A2, or B. Provisional licences are accepted only if Spanish. B licences can be used starting from their first day of validity.
You will only need an international driver’s licence if the agreement between your country of origin and Spain requires such a permit.
Prices
This scooter rental service has one pay-as-you-go option and four credit packs you can choose from. The option with the highest cost per minute is of course the pay-as-you-go service.
The cost per minute decreases as the pre-paid credit packs get bigger. All options include insurance, which covers the driver and vehicle.
Payment methods accepted are any type of debit or credit card accepted in Europe, as long as it is 16 digits long and with a CVC. Other payment methods are not accepted at the time.

Yego’s extra features
Here is some more useful information about the functionalities of the app and other features that you might want to use before or during the rental process.
- If you want to book a different scooter from the pre-selected one just tap on another scooter’s icon.
- Once you select a scooter, the vehicle will stay reserved for you for 15 minutes, at no charge. If you need more than 15 minutes to reach the selected scooter’s location, you may extend your booking for €0.14 per minute.
- You can take a passenger with you, that’s why there are two helmets in the case.
- Drive however much you like within the permitted area but remember that you cannot drive outside the authorised area.
- The battery autonomy of a fully charged scooter is approximately 60 km (37 miles).
- During your trip, you can set the scooter on pause to run a quick errand. To do so, you just have to open the app and click on the “pause” button (this will cost you €0.14 per minute).
- At the end of your ride, you may park your scooter anywhere within the permitted area, while respecting all local norms. You can check all rules and norms.
- Remember that the licence plate and the surroundings must be visible in the picture you will take at the end of your ride. This is so that Yego can verify that you have parked the scooter correctly.
Advantages and disadvantages
Yego’s advantage over other scooter rentals is surely the number of vehicles they have in the city. This means that you are likely to find a scooter close to you, no matter where you are in the city.
Another good thing about the app is its simplicity and sensible option selection. Only having one pay-as-you-go option and four credit packs makes it much easier to make a choice, instead of having to sort through several (only marginally) different offers.

For how fashionably retro the vehicles look, they only reach a speed of 50 km/h (31 mph) and don’t have great acceleration. This can be a drawback for some, especially when you are just starting up after a red light.
In this regard, Acciona’s scooters are much better. However, consider that the speed limits within the city make it so that it is rarely legal to go above 50 km/h (31 mph).
In our opinion, the real disadvantage of the app is its lack of phone assistance for its customers. In fact, Yego only offers a chat, available 24/7 (and generally very quick in responding), but no fast-reachable phone customer service.
Cooltra
Cooltra offers two kinds of rental services: a per-minute rental and a long-term rental. The first one is pretty much the same as Yego and Acciona, the other is a daily or monthly rental with flat fees.
For these long-term rentals, you can reserve online or go directly to the shop and rent on the spot. Similarly, you can arrange for your scooter to be delivered to and later picked up from a select location, or go do it in person yourself.

Much like Yego, Cooltra offers scooters equivalent to 50cc, with a maximum speed of about 50 km/h (31 mph). They can be driven by anyone over the age of 18 with a valid ID and driver’s licence.
Types of licences accepted are AM, A1, A2, or B. B licences can be used starting from their first day of validity. You will only need an international driver’s licence if the agreement between your country of origin and Spain requires such a permit.
If you want, you can also book Cooltra electric scooters through Free Now . This way you’ll be able to rent Cooltra’s scooters on a per-minute basis at a cost of €0.28 per minute (this is the only rate available through Free Now).
In this case, the whole process - vehicle booking, pick-up, return, and troubleshooting - is done through Free Now. Of course, you will also need to upload your driver’s licence on Free Now.
However, remember that if you do decide to book Cooltra’s scooters this way, you won’t enjoy the €15.00 credit you normally get by downloading Cooltra through our link, available below.
If you want to have some more info about Free Now, you can read our article about apps to use in Valencia.
Prices
The per-minute service has a variety of pay-as-you-go and credit pack options. The cost of the pay-as-you-go service depends on the insurance package, either with an excess of €99.00 or €500.00.
This means that you are covered by insurance either way, but in case of an accident, you may be required to contribute up to €99.00 (in case you have an Insurance Plus or Advanced Cool price plan) or €500.00 (in case you have a Base, Be Planet, or Change Maker price plan).
On top of the pay-as-you-go options, there are three unlimited passes and four credit packs. With the latter, the cost per minute is lowest with the biggest credit pack. The unlimited passes have a set cost and duration (8h, 24h, and 48h), within which you can use the scooters however long you need.
Cooltra accepts any Mastercard or VISA credit, debit, or pre-paid card as payment methods.

- At the end of your ride, you may park your scooter anywhere within the permitted area, while respecting local norms. You can check all rules and norms in the relevant section of the article
Advantages and Disadvantages
Cooltra’s strength is definitely the range of options they offer, with plenty of long term rentals (either per day or even per month) and short term rentals (pay-as-you-go, credit packs, or unlimited usage passes).
For long term rentals, you can also choose whether to do this online or in-person with an attendant to guide you. Moreover, once you are a customer with Cooltra, you will also have a phone number on which you can contact them in case of need.

On the other hand, Cooltra’s fleet is not as numerous as those of other rental services in Valencia. Considering the speed limits within the city, the maximum speed of Cooltra’s scooters (50 km/h, 31 mph) should not be a problem.
Another minor drawback that we found with Cooltra is the lack of help for prospective customers. That is, if you want further information before signing up for the service, it is difficult to get satisfying and complete assistance through their chat.
Useful Tips for Renting a Scooter
- You can always carry a passenger with you, as long as they are over 12 years old. Your passenger can be between 7 and 12 years of age if you are their parent or legal guardian.
- Never let anyone else use your account. If you do, you might get fined according to the company’s policies.
- Getting a prepaid credit pack saves you money over a pay-as-you-go option.
- Similarly, the bigger the credit pack, the lower the cost per minute. If you are not familiar with the service, we would recommend trying it out for a ride first to see if you like it and to get an idea of how much you will want to use it during your stay. Once that is clear, you can proceed to purchase credit packs.
- Keep in mind that once you submit all the information and documents on your account, the companies will need some time to verify them (up to two days). Until then, you won’t be able to use your account to get a scooter. Because of this, we suggest you begin the account verification process ahead of time, before you plan on actually using the app.
- All three companies let you put the scooters on “pause” mode from the app. This can be useful if, during your trip, you need to pick someone up or run a quick errand without returning your scooter. The cost of this mode is lower than the regular cost per minute.
- Always make sure your phone is fully charged when using an electric scooter rental service. You will not have keys to the vehicles, so the app on your phone will be the only way to start and finish your journeys. If your phone battery dies during your journey, you have to find a way to contact the company, otherwise, you’ll continue to be charged.
- Some of Acciona’s scooters (the older models) have two USB ports under the right handle. You will however need your own cable to charge your phone.
Norms and Rules for Scooters
When you take out a scooter, you are responsible and liable for how you conduct yourself on the street. This means that you have to respect all traffic rules to ensure your safety and that of others around you. By doing so, you will also avoid any fines, which you will be considered responsible for paying with any rental or motosharing company.
Circulation
- You can drive on normal streets with other vehicles.
- You cannot drive on bike lanes.
- You can drive your scooter even in case of traffic restrictions due to pollution, as the vehicle is completely electric and does not contribute to emissions.
- You can drive in A.P.R., or Áreas Prioridad Residencial (residential priority areas), as long as they are within the designated app area.
- Respect speed limits. In Valencia’s urban area the streets generally fall between two categories. For streets that have only one lane per direction, the speed limit is 30 km/h (slightly below 19 mph). For all other streets, it is 50 km/h (about 31 mph).
- You have to wear a helmet, which is provided by the motosharing companies. Failure to comply can mean getting a fine of up to €200.00.
- It is forbidden to wear earphones on a scooter, if you do so you are risking a fine of up to €200.00.
Parking
While you can park anywhere you want within the area indicated by your scooter provider, you still need to make sure that you are respecting Valencia’s motorcycle parking rules.

On the Sidewalk
- Avoid parking on the sidewalk whenever this can obstruct pedestrian passage. Failure to do so can incur a fine of up to €200.00.
- You cannot park on the sidewalk if this is less than 3 metres wide.
- You cannot park on the sidewalk if there is a motorcycle parking space less than 50 metres away.
- You cannot park in front of a business entrance/exit.
- You cannot park on disabled parking bays.
- You cannot park on manhole covers.
- You cannot park in front of bus stops.
- You cannot park on the sidewalk (or the street) if you are less than 3 metres away from a crosswalk.
- If the sidewalk borders the road, and it is between 3 and 6 metres wide, you need to parallel park.
- If the sidewalk borders the road, and it is more than 6 metres wide, you need to angle park.
- If the sidewalk borders a bike lane, and it is between 3 and 6 metres wide, you need to keep a distance of 1 metre from the bike lane.
- If the sidewalk borders a bike lane, and it is more than 6 metres wide, you need to keep a distance of at least 3 metres from the bike lane.
On a Bike Lane
- It is severely forbidden to park on a bike lane, on any occasion.
On the Street
- You can park in motorcycle parking spots.
- You cannot park in parking spots reserved for bikes.
- You cannot park on disabled parking bays.
- You cannot park on the street (or sidewalk) if you are less than 3 metres away from a crosswalk.
