Basilique du Sacré-Coeur

The Sacré-Coeur Basilica, from its 130 metres above ground, is one of the most iconic constructions in Paris.

The Basilica of Sacré Coeur de Montmartre (meaning Sacred Heart of Montmartre), also simply known as Sacré-Cœur, is a Roman-Catholic church located at the summit of the Montmartre hill, in the homonymous neighbourhood.

From its high position on the hill, about 200 metres (656 feet) above the level of the Seine river, the Basilica offers a beautiful view over the entire city of Paris and its surroundings. If you want to explore the area and get to know more about the Basilica, we recommend a tour guided a local .

The Basilica of Sacré Coeur was built between 1875 and 1914 in Neo-Byzantine-Romanesque style, which distinguishes it from most other churches in the city.

While the outside strikes visitors with its appearance and all-white domes and campanile, inside the Sacré-Coeur, the ceiling is decorated with the largest mosaic in France - 480 m² (more than 5,000 square feet).

Parvis du Sacré-Coeur, Montmartre, 18th arrondissement.
